Work, Work, Work...

This weekend, I watched the Oscar nominated movie 'Up in the Air,' to which combined a life of work and travel for George Clooney - which on a side note Hagarboy is often compared to for his handsome looks and suave, Casanova-like personality. But anyways, the point is, George worked and flew, flew for work and worked through flight. He didn't have much for relationships, or time to himself, his home was bare and cold. It made me think about work...

If all we do is work, work, work...we can become defined by our computer, by our email account, our fax number our work line. We recite our work address as it is our home address, or maybe our work address is an actual airport. Our personality becomes communicated through emails and documents, budgets and time lines. We are tied to our PDA's our phones and constantly ON-CALL. I say to you, instead of working to work, work to find balance. Go into the office, go hard at what you do, and at a certain time of day shut down, donate your time and energy to the important areas of your life, to you, your loved ones. You will find more reward in both your work life and your personal life.

Without giving away too much of the movie, George tried to find a different avenue away from work and it didn't pan out...he remained defined by his career and travel, his handsome looks were not enough to make him happy, sometimes Hagarboy can, but that's not the point here - we need balance in our lives...take 30 minutes away from the electronic world of work and play superball with your puppy...

  1. Well said, Hagar. I wonder, however, why your mug has an "N" on it rather than an "H."
