Smile, you're on Candid Camera

"Smile...you're on candid camera!" Candid Camera was a hidden Camera television series created and produced by Allen Funt in the 50's. The premise of the show involved concealed cameras filming ordinary people being confronted with unusual situations, sometimes involving trickery, such as trick props, situations, people, etc. When the joke was revealed, victims would be told the shows catch phrase: "Smile, you're on Candid Camera." The humor was behind putting real people in fabricated situations. The humor was watching people realize how silly they had reacted to trick situation that they thought was real. The final shot of their face when they realize drew the most humor.

Hmmmmm...real people in fabricated situations ending with humor. Can't we bring humor into real situations in our daily lives? What if instead of getting all worked up over situations that seem to hold so much weight in our everyday, we said "smile, you're on candid camera" instead? How might that change our reaction? How might that help bring light to a situation that feels dark? Would it make us tune into our reactions? Would we handle things more calmly? Think about it, if you went into a store, knowing that there was a prank being played on you at the register when your credit card wasn't accepted, wouldn't you react with a smile and get cash out, instead of acting out in anger? Who is to say you can't treat every situation with that same feeling.

"Smile, you have just been caught on candid Camera"...Now, laugh at the situation and walk away from it...
